Jigyasa – Student–Scientist Connect Program

Visit to CSIR – New Delhi

On 19th August, 42 students from classes 8 to 12 visited the CSIR Centre in New Delhi. The visit was organized under the Jigyasa – Student–Scientist Connect Program. Our students had the wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with real scientists, who explained the role of CSIR in advancing science and technology and contributing to nation-building.

After showcasing their projects and achievements, the scientists conducted an interactive quiz in which our students participated enthusiastically and won several prizes. The scientists were highly impressed by the enthusiasm and curiosity of our students.

“In the CSIR program, I learned about different research institutes and how they work. We all took part in quizzes, won prizes. I also learned about the great contributions of many scientists. The most exciting part was seeing preserved herbs and plants, animal species like starfish, crabs, snakes and even shark liver, along with different rocks and elements . We also got to know about ancient millets, the water distillation process, Muga silk and rice from Assam, and the metal mirror of Kerala. This experience taught me the importance of science, conservation, and our cultural heritage.” – Sudha – Grade 10

Then we has our first interaction with scientist Dr. Manish Mohan who interacted with us and presented a presentation on Science writing skill. After him the second interaction took place with Sonali ma’am who explained us about Popular Science Writing with emphasis on Mis-Information overload. She showed us many examples of fake news and how we have to stay awareness about fake news.
Then by the end, we visited Raw Material’s Herbarium & Museum where we saw different kind of natural rocks, preserved animals and plants in different kind of jars. And we got to know the importance of these as well.” – Mampi – Grade 11
